Sludge Dewatering

All water & waste water treatment process produce sludge for further treatment and disposal. Often, these sludges have a very high moisture content, commonly exceeding 97%. Obviously this presents a real logistic problem.

By dewatering these sludges, their volumes can be reduced significantly by sending the filtrate back to the inlet works of the plant. The dewatered sludges are then reduced in volume significantly and can be handled more easily.

There are many forms of sludge dewatering ranging from traditional drying beds to thermal driers. Drying beds are still commonly used in dry regions where land area is not at a premium. Where a compact and rapid form of sludge drying is required, the filter belt press is widely used.

Eflo offer a range of belt presses capable of processing consolidated sludges at flow rates of 6 m3/hr to 150 m3/hr.

The moisture content of the feed sludge and the desired moisture content in the treated sludge will determine the dewatering equipment and in many cases, pre treatment using the Eflo Sludge Thickener will be required.

Because of the strong water bonds to the solids, it is almost always necessary to dose the feed sludge with chemical polymers to break the bonds and allow effective dewatering. Eflo can provide all the necessary chemical preparation and dosing equipment.
